Social workers help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. Typically they can help decrease stress and improve life in many ways including:
- Individual, group or family counseling
- Assess needs, situations, strengths, and identify support systems
- Help with adjustment to changes and challenges in life, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment
- Advocate for community resources and provide help navigating through them
- Help with crisis intervention and follow up to ensure that situations have improved
- Evaluate services provided to ensure that they are effective
